American Cancer Society

The ACS is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of cancer patients, survivors, and their families. They are an amazing group of people doing exceptional work and I am honored to be a part of it. Here I am working the check-in booth at the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk in Seattle.

Campaign Research Intern

As a Campaign Research Intern, I collect and organize data for ACS staff about any area they request. So far my main assignments have been in the hotel and transportation sections. I started by making phone calls to over 200 hotels around the country, collecting information from the front desk and managers, and inputting that data into spreadsheets. My work had to be organized and thorough. This data was then used to create information pamphlets for cancer patients across America. My latest assignment had me searching specialized hotel databases for key information useful to the ACS and its hospitality and events branches. Next, I will be working with LA transport agencies to provide information on routes to cancer treatment for patients.

Volunteering here has allowed me to not only work on my data entry, cleaning, and wrangling skills but also provided a great source of community. Volunteering at in-person events solidifies this effect, and it feels great to bring even a little bit of ease into the lives of cancer patients.
